The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT)

The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) is an independent tribunal for dispute settlement. It works on least formality and seeks to solve disputes in as little time as possible.

The purpose of Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal is to give out judgments fairly, quickly and in the most inexpensive manner.

QCAT also reviews issues on a range of subjects which were earlier reviewed by the supreme court, district courts and magistrate courts.

Also, the QCATA (the appeal tribunal of QCAT) hears appeals against the decisions made by the tribunal.

Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal includes members like lawyers and people from specialised fields with expertise in their field of knowledge. For example, a child psychologist or a social worker might be required in a child custody case.
